Roberto Bolaño
The Return, Roberto Bolaño’s long awaited second volume of short stories, arrives to an obsessed English speaking fan base on July 27, 2010. The volume has been described as, “tender or etched in acid; hazily suggestive or chillingly definitive: a trove of strangely arresting, short master works.” I, for one, am counting the minutes, holding my breath, mad with anticipation…
Bolaño’s writing is apocalyptic, dreamlike, brutal, poetic in its search for self…
“I’d never seen them look so beautiful. I know it sounds silly to say, but they’d never seemed so beautiful, so seductive. Although they weren’t trying to be. In fact, they were dirty, who knows how long it’d been since they’d showered, how long since they’d slept, they had circles under their eyes, and they needed to shave (not Ulises , because he never had to shave), but I would’ve kissed them both, I don’t know why I didn’t, but I would’ve gone to bed with them both, fucked them until we passed out, then watched them sleep and afterward kept fucking. I thought: if we find a hotel, if we’re in a dark room, if we have all the time in the world, if I undress them and they undress me, everything will be all right, my father’s madness, the lost car, the sadness and energy I felt and that at moments seemed about to choke me. But I didn’t say a word. (Roberto Bolaño, The Savage Detectives)

Why Don’t They Make Things Like This Anymore?
Today I did an event in an old building from the 1950s… And I fell in love. My eye was constantly drawn to what are normally the most mundane things… but due to their spectacular design I found myself in fits of hysteria. Here are a few photos…
The Best Nights Are Often Sunday – Thursday
School Nights are my favorite nights to go out with friends. They tend to be less planned and therefore stress-free and simple. I find that sometimes due to this simplicity and spontaneity, unexpected glamour flows freely.
Here are a few ideas for creating your own “thrown together” weeknight party, based on my some of my adventures this week:

Korean BBQ Los Angeles – Welcome to Park’s Barbeque – ParksBBQ.c
Taix French Restaurant – Los Angeles – Welcome.
House of Waris
I am crushing hard on House of Waris… and Waris Ahlauwalia! Both him and his jewelry line are impeccably delicious! Any man who names jewels after love-seeking literary characters has my heart and my attention.
“Close your eyes; for if you do not, your face, burning like lava of the volcano, will fall to ashes into the palm of my hand.” – Comte de Lautréamont
Happy Hour At Monsieur Marcel
As the warm weather beckons… I begin to think about al fresco dining, and more importantly, Happy Hour! One of my favorite haunts in the city of Los Angeles is Monsieur Marcel in the legendary Farmer’s Market at Third and Fairfax. It is the perfect place to have a gossip session with friends or a romantic tête-à-tête with someone special. Sitting in a bistro chair, with pinotage in hand, in the open air, surrounded by trees and pretty people while the world rushes by feels sinfully luxurious!

Amangiri: Destination Summer
This time of year, the cusp of spring and summer, always finds me longing for a desert retreat. Desert landscapes possess healing energy and magical properties. This summer I would love to visit Amangiri – Luxury resort hotel Lake Powell, Utah – home. Located on a 243-hectare (600-acre) expanse of wilderness in the Four Corners Region of the U.S., it offers stunning views of the starkly beautiful expanse. The resort has a spa, and offers equestrian, helicopter and hot air balloon adventures, and archaeological tours, as some of its activities. This is a truly elevated environment in which to turn-off and tune in!
Christian Dior Cruise 2011: Shanghai
John Galliano showed the “savoir-faire of France” in his new cruise line. The frocks below are the embodiment of Parisian Chic and ushered us back to Dior’s yesteryear when the house originally opened, with their nipped waists, providing the perfect feminine silhouette. I can see myself playing bridge on deck with a kir royale in hand! Ahoy Darlings!
Custom Wallpaper
Rollout’s custom created wallpaper for Mango Shiva, an Indian restaurant in Calgary, is delicious!
I am head over heels in love with this wallpaper! Not to mention the über glam mirror! Anything described as a “Bollywood Acid-Trip” speaks to my inner-landscape! I have always thought of the bathroom as a sacred space… this elevates the idea to new heights!
The Perfect Chandelier
I love house projects, which is a fortunate thing, given that my home is a 1930s duplex that needs constant love, attention and creative fondling. One project that has been gnawing at me for the past 9 years is finding the proper light fixtures for the dining room and for the kitchen, which includes a breakfast nook… I only like to buy objects that I am absolutely mad about and cannot stand living another moment without… This has not happened for me yet… Until I stumbled across these beauties!
I am intrigued by and drawn to places of worship, of all kinds. There is a petite chapel near my office and one day I could not resist the urge to explore. When I opened the door I was surprised to see that it was made to seat at most, 20 people. What surprised me even further was that it had two of the most perfect chandeliers. Beautiful creations from the 1960s-1970s. The gold/copper tone of the jagged metal looks almost as if it were dripping both light and its own matter. The effect is stunning! I immediately knew that these were the perfect chandeliers for my kitchen. One for the breakfast nook and one for the kitchen proper. My challenge now is to find out who made them or to inquire if they can be purchased from this sweet little house of God.
