“Maybe Persephone thought Hades was the infinitely cool older man who held the knowledge she sought, maybe she loved the darkness, the six months of winter, the sharp taste of pomegranates, the freedom from her mother, maybe she knew that to be truly alive, death had to be part of the picture, just as winter must.”
-Rebecca Solnit, A Field Guide to Getting Lost

May the sun bring you new energy by day.

May the moon softly restore you by night.

May the rain wash away your worries.

May the breeze blow new strength into your being.

May you walk gently through the world and know its beauty all the days of your life.

I built an alter in my heart

even though they said the light had burnt out
extinguished somehow / someone
and the residents inside it were from another time and place
they came with their knives and cut down everything
so delicately hung
with thought and care
tore the velvety thick draperies
the paper from walls
the shimmery crystalline that glimmered off eyes so deep and intoxicating
the atmosphere sucked out like a vacuum
so the flame could be lit
pink and new and fresh
and raw

I once heard somewhere, long ago, that when a peacock cries it is because two lovers are separated.

But what if the peacock’s cry represents inner freedom and a breaking away and moving closer to the self, to the creative force, the creator within? What if it is the cry not of lovers separated, but of a reuniting with our true self; a uniting of body and mind with the soul? A return home. The place where the only true love exists.

Heads or Tails

As a child I fantasized endlessly about having a tail. It seemed so unfair that humans don’t have tails. Tails seemed so expressive and enchanting. Later, in my club days, I often wore costumes that had a tail as an accessory…

Quite to my delight, last week I ran across the company neurowear.

They currently have a prototype called Tailly… a moveable wagging tail that responds to the heart rate of the wearer! It is so cute and so kooky! I am dying to have one!

And if that were not enough there is also Necomimi, which are adorable plush cat ears that utilize brainwaves to express your emotions without having to speak.

Dear Dior… I love you…

Leave it to Victoire de Castellane to make dreams reality. The 20 piece Dear Dior collection is an homage to the statement making costume jewelry that Dior, the legend himself, had designed to accessorize his 1950s couture collections. The rarity of seeing fine and precious jewelry in astronomical / fantastic proportions is jaw-dropping.
