Shanghai World Expo 2010… And The Canadian Pavilion

The Canadian Pavilion created by Saia Barbarese Topouzanov – SBT for the Shanghai World Expo 2010 is an intertwining of metaphors… a beautiful, utopian… response, solution, commentary on urban space.

GENTLEMEN

Frankie Morello Fall 2010

Frankie Morello’s metallic gold boots are a perfect choice for sexy, fashionable men this fall. I certainly hope to see more gentlemen brave and gorgeous enough to wear statement making shoes. It is time that men had more choices and expressed themselves more freely though fashion and design.

CHARMING & GORGEOUS

Downtown Los Angeles… Please Take Note…

Living in Los Angeles can feel like an endless parade of parking garages; so many of them poorly designed and lacking in aesthetic beauty or imagination. It boggles the mind why someone cannot come up with a design that combines functionality with a sense of beauty and grace…

Last night, Albertine & Odette stumbled upon this glorious photo of what has to be one of the most stunning car-parks ever… The 1929 Michigan Theater in Detroit, has been transformed into a glamorous, thought-provoking parking lot. It makes one want to park, sit in the car and listen to some good music, while enjoying the scenery and acoustics.

Kate Cusack

Kate Cusack creates beauty and whimsy from the most mundane objects. Her work is inspiring, witty and thought-provoking. Her plastic wrap wigs graced Tiffany & Company’s, Mother’s Day Windows in 2002… I think they still look fabulous!

DEGREES OF HYSTERIA

Paper Fashion

In 2009 Antwerp’s MoMu held an exhibit called Paper Fashion. In 1966 the first throw away paper dress was introduced in the United States, causing a trend that lasted throughout the 1960s. The exhibit featured clothing from this era, as well as rare Japanese garments from the Edo and Meiji periods. Below are some of my personal favorites…

My Current Thoughts On Glamour

“(She)… adored prehistoric art, and Russian music, and the paintings of Gauguin and Matisse; but she also, and with a beaming unconsciousness of perspective, adored large pearls and powerful motors, caravan tea and modern plumbing, perfumed cigarettes and society scandals.”

EXTRAORDINARILY SACRED

Happy Birthday Yogi Bhajan

“Make yourself so happy, that by looking at you, other people become happy.”

“Your strength is how calmly, quietly, and peacefully you face life.”

“Meditation is not what you do in the morning; that is practice. Meditation is the daily result of that practice.”

“The greatest art is to sit, and wait, and let it come.”

Larchmont Shoe Repair

It must be clear by now that Albertine & Odette have a fondness for originality and cultivation of one’s own unique sense of style and way of doing things; a preference for all things “off the beaten path”. Larchmont Shoe Repair is a charming place. Each visit is like taking a trip into another dimension. The owner, Dominik is a painter, as well as a cobbler, and his artwork is proudly displayed in the crowded little shop. While he waits on you he often hums, Strangers In The Night, pausing only to tell you fascinating stories about his past and to offer you his pearls of wisdom. Do not expect to get a ticket or receipt when leaving your items in is care; Larchmont Shoe Service is a business based on trust and old-fashioned friendly customer service.

The Right Swimwear  = The Life Of The Party

I believe in gorgeous, unique, eye-catching swimwear. I also believe you can never own too many swimsuits… On this particularly warm day in August, my eye was drawn to this wonderfully versatile, super sexy, metallic number. This would be just the thing to wear at night to a fun party with the perfect set of heels and a great blazer! Or during the day, dining al fresco with a pair of hip-hugger jeans!

Sharpening My Pencils

Fashionary “the sketchbook tailor-made for fashion designers”, launched its Men’s Edition. As a child and adolescent I spent countless hours sketching my outrageous ideas regarding fashion. I have longed to pick this hobby back up and cradle it in my arms… This is just the motivation I have been waiting for!
